Who is responsible

Smartshow LMS is made by Lee James Apps (a trading name of Lee James), based in the United Kingdom. For anything on this page — questions, requests, complaints — email lee@leejamesapps.co.uk.

This website

The desktop application

When Smartshow LMS starts, it sends one small message to my server. This is how I know whether anyone is actually using it, which versions are still in the wild, and which operating systems to keep testing on.

What is sent:

What is not sent: your name, email, your projects or show files, your matrix layout, your patch, file paths, screen contents, or anything you create in the software. Your work stays on your machine.

Lawful basis. Legitimate interests — understanding usage of my own software so I can support and improve it. You can object at any time (see below).

Retention. Launch records currently go back to the first public beta in May 2026 and are not yet automatically deleted. I am introducing a rolling limit; in the meantime, ask and I will delete yours.

How to stop it. The ping is fire-and-forget and the application works perfectly with no internet connection at all — blocking it in your firewall, or simply running the machine offline as many show computers are, disables it with no loss of function. If you would rather I deleted what has already been recorded, email me and I will remove it.

Update checks

On launch the application asks this website whether a newer version exists. It is a plain request for a small file — nothing is downloaded or installed automatically, it only puts a notice on screen. As with any web request, my server sees your IP address in its logs, subject to the 14-day retention above.

Who else sees anything

Nothing is sold, rented or shared for advertising or marketing. Ever.

The tester forum

The separate forum at forum.lms.leejamesapps.co.uk requires an account and therefore holds the email address and username you register with, plus what you post. It is covered by its own terms shown at sign-up. Delete-account requests go to the same email address as above.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to it being processed. Email lee@leejamesapps.co.uk and I will deal with it within one month. For app telemetry, quoting your install ID (found in the app's settings folder) helps me find the right records — without it there is genuinely no way for me to identify which are yours.

If you are unhappy with how I have handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be mentioned in the release notes.
